Plaza de Toros
The Plaza de Toros de Ronda is one of the oldest and most prestigious bullrings in Spain. Built in 1785 by architect José Martín de Aldehuela, who also designed the famous Puente Nuevo, it is a magnificent example of neoclassical architecture. With a capacity of approximately 5,000 spectators and an impressive diameter of 66 meters, it is one of the largest bullrings in the country.
The bullring is renowned not only for its size but also for its historical significance. It is the birthplace of the Rondeño style, a form of bullfighting introduced by the famous Romero dynasty, which put Ronda on the map in the world of bullfighting.
Today, the Plaza de Toros is primarily used for cultural events and as a museum, where visitors can learn more about the history of bullfighting and Ronda's connection to this tradition. Even for those unfamiliar with bullfighting, a visit is worthwhile for the beautiful architecture and the role the bullring plays in Spanish culture.
